For months now, there have been rumors of a Facebook phone hitting the shelves. This month that rumor has been put to rest. Facebook announced the launch of a new app for Android called Facebook Home. So the rumors were half-true.  This app turns your phone into a Facebook phone.

Facebook Home turns your device’s home screen in to a cover-feed for an immersive Facebook experience. The screen displays notifications, full size photos, and status updates- all visible from the lock screen any time the device is awake.

For the chronic Facebook user this is great, because it basically turns your phone into social media wallpaper…your fix is always just a glance away. You can like and comment on whatever pops up from the lock screen as well.

While convenient, this feature poses potential problems. Not all photos are created equal.  You’re just as likely to have your cousin’s drunken bachelor party picture scroll across your home screen as your best friends Instagrammed dinner…not exactly ideal if your phone is sitting out for all to see.

The app comes pre-installed on the HTC-First phone, and is available for other Android devices in the Google Play store.

Will you be using Facebook Home? What do you think of the cover-feed? You can share your thoughts on our wall at facebook.com/interworks.
