When you think of social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter, productivity is probably the last word that comes to mind, but similarly-structured platforms like Jive intend to change that. The market of social-technologies oriented for the business world is here to stay, and it aims to bring productivity back to the workplace.
Jive is an amalgamation of collaborative software and social software intended specifically for sharing information between offices and coworkers. Instead of sharing links to YouTube videos of cats trying to fit into small boxes, or hitting the ‘like’ button 60 times a minute, with Jive you’d be sharing links to schedules, collectively updating files, and brainstorming with coworkers. Offices with significant amounts of geography between them can become integrated online communities.
The rapid pace of information sharing on a social- or business-social –platform is what Jive posits will increase productivity in the work place. Jive suggests that while email is essential to the workplace, it is by no means the most efficient way to communicate, especially in a collaborative situation where multiple opinions are needed on an evolving project.
For better or worse, social media has changed our personal lives. Jive, and other forms of this new media called “social business”, very well may change our business lives. What do you think of using social software in the workplace? Is email becoming old fashioned?
