Google recently unveiled a cloud-based web and Android app called “Google Keep”. It’s a simple and efficient application that allows you to keep track of your thoughts and ideas via snippets of information like notes, photos, and lists. Google Keep is the company’s little step into the quickly-growing market of note-taking apps.
Any note you add or list your create can be color coded, and is similar to Evernote in that it is automatically backed up to the cloud and available on the rest of your devices. Google Keep can also transcribe voice notes. And of course, since it’s a Google product, it has a nifty search tool as well.
The app is fast and light, and according to Google, is supposed to replace your stack of post-it notes. It’s a little more bare-bones than services like Evernote though, in that is doesn’t let you organize your notes into notebooks- it’s just a stream of notes organized by date. Its options for sharing content with others is a little on the skimpy side as well.
The service is convenient and straight to the point, but it doesn’t necessarily blow anything out of the water. What it does do is fill a gap in Google’s product line.
Google Keep is available on Google Play for devices running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich and above.
How do you use your mobile device to stay organized? Will you be giving Google Keep a try? You can share your thoughts on our wall at facebook.com/interworks.
