The Singapore Tableau User Group (TUG) conjured up an unforgettable Halloween-themed extravaganza on 23 October 2023. Not only did they summon the presence of two esteemed Tableau Visionaries and Iron Viz Champions – Will Sutton and Tristan Guillevin, but they also created a night to be etched in memory. This special gathering brought forth exceptional guest appearances, enlightening presentations and eerie visualizations that will linger in our minds.

Dashboard Tips and Treats

I was honored to commence the evening by demonstrating the art of repurposing filter actions, sheet swapping, dynamic table swapping, and collapsible containers. These invaluable dashboard tips provide the means to fulfill multifaceted user requirements and effectively manage the limitations of dashboard space. A comprehensive blog post detailing these tips is on the horizon, so stay tuned for more!

There’s Nothing Scary About These Charts

Tristan Guillevin, a Tableau Visionary, Iron Viz Champion 2017, and the founder of Ladataviz, undertook the daunting task of demystifying advanced charts, repetitive KPI card creation and intricate dashboard formatting. The audience marveled as Tristan effortlessly vanquished these challenges with just a few clicks, using tools such as AdvViz and BANg.

Frightened by the Idea That AI Will Take Your Job?

Will Sutton, Tableau Visionary and Iron Viz Champion 2022, led us through the peaks and valleys of his data visualization journey with ChatGPT. He even pitted this AI against the finest in a $2,000 data visualization competition. The anxiety-inducing question loomed in everyone’s thoughts: Will ChatGPT replace our jobs? Fortunately, the answer is not yet! But it’s up to us to harness this technology as a co-pilot and accelerate our creative ideas.

Make Me BOO-Tiful?

The event fully embraced the Halloween spirit with an interactive Kahoot segment, delving into real-world examples of bad visualizations. Attendees immersed themselves in selecting options that violated Visual Best Practices, such as inappropriate color usage, misleading axis representation and skewed data presentation.
