Google just released a simple (and incredibly cheap) tool to stream video from your mobile device to your TV. It’s called Google Chromecast, and priced at thirty-five dollars, it’s a steal.
It’s a bare-bones device. About the size of your car-key fob, it plugs into the USB port in your TV. There is little to no user interface. Your iPhone, laptop, or Android device acts as the interface. It’s set up to stream whatever is playing on your device to your TV. The streaming quality is high, especially with apps like YouTube and Netflix.
You don’t have to learn anything new to use it either. Just plug it in and use your device like you normally would.
Oh and in case you didn’t hear me, it’s THIRTY-FIVE DOLLARS.
The really interesting part about this device is that Google claims it’s not selling the Chromecast at a loss. Somehow they’re actually turning a profit on this thing. While it’s new and bound to have a bug here or there, for the price, there is no reason not to get one – bugs will be fixed.
The little guy even updates itself to stay compatible with a growing number of apps.
How do you think the Chromecast will compare to platforms like Roku and Apple TV? Would you be willing to shell out thirty-five bones for a nifty TV tool like this? You can share your thoughts on our wall at facebook.com/interworks.
