Apple's New Patent

Apple just recently got its hands on a swanky new patent for a distinctive bezel technology. Just so we’re all on the same page here, the bezel of a mobile device is the space between the edge of the touchable/readable screen, and the physical edge of the device. On the iPad, for instance, the bezel is around three quarters of an inch.

The patent Apple just acquired is for a bezel that can come in and out of view, depending on the task at hand. A bezel that can disappear is ideal for devices lacking in screen real estate.  IT JUST SO HAPPENS that Apple also recently trademarked the name iWatch in Japan… Do you follow me?

Back in April, CEO Tim Cook intimated that the company would be unveiling some new products by the fiscal year’s end as well. Big tech companies collect patents and trademarks like Pokémon, even if the intended products don’t come to market for years and years, if at all. But all the same, it’s exciting to see that Apple is entering the fray of wearable tech.

What are other implications of a disappearing bezel? What do you think we’ll see from Apple this fall? You can share your thoughts on our wall at facebook.com/interworks.
