Instagram Video

Instagram is officially the Instagram of video. Last week, the serviced rolled out a long anticipated video feature, equipped with 13 filters developed specifically for video. Unlike Vine, with its 6 second clips, Instagram offers clips with a 15 second duration, along with some simple editing features. Not only can you edit your clips and filter them to make them look cool, but you can actually take a less shaky video thanks to Instagram’s Cinema technology. The cinema feature stabilizes your shaky hand to keep the video smooth.

If you haven’t already, just update your Instagram app, and you’ll be able to use the feature. This new addition to the service better positions Facebook against Twitter, who rolled out its own video service called Vine earlier this year. In response Instagram Video, Vine unveiled some new features as well.

The magic formula that makes Vine so enjoyable is the ease of consumption. At 6 seconds, clips load quickly, and you can consume a number of them in a short amount of time. This same ease and speed of consumption is the same reason that Instagram works so well with photos. Even with a meager connection, you can scroll through a hundred photos and see what your friends are up to.

Whether or not that ease will carry over to video is up to you. 15 second clips can mean longer load times, depending on your connection. It’s possible that these lengthier videos and load times could take away from the magic of Instagram. You decide.

What do you think of Instagram video? Is it as easy to share and consume videos as it is with photos? You can share your thoughts on our wall at facebook.com/interworks.
